Branch of Greed

Upon branch of greed

Springs leafy fruit, yet worthless

Shoddy soul poisoned

By pride, self-aggrandizement

Pathetic casualty

Consequences due…

Dearth of selflessness

Will work to heart’s detriment

Initial gains lost

Who Was She ‘Before’ (3TC)

Prompt words:  puzzle, cross, frame

Her days were puzzles

(as such, metaphor)

She’d frame them with to-do lists

Fatigue crossed off tasks

Her thoughts would skip too nimbly

Between Now and Yesterday

Words, like dropped stitches

Were lost amid mind’s scuffle

Who was she “before”…

Oh…the one always ignored

She’s no longer fazed

Yesterday’s Embers

Summer’s intense heat

Perhaps it might rekindle

Yesterday’s embers

She languished ‘mid memories

His face in twilight hour…Then

Reminded herself

He was truly her gone-love

Ever debonair…

Strange mystery, growing old

How it contradicts the heart…

To think that they

Were blind and lost

Lame of heart, mind

But all by Holy Spirit

Brethren devote

Their meager lives

To quiet zeal, good

Works of repentance

They would not gore

Another’s soul with harsh

Religious words

For they were once

By sin undone, but have

Tasted mercy, grace…

Now walk by Faith

Reflect the Lord’s

Example… Love is

God’s commandment

“This [is what] I command you: that you love and unselfishly seek the best for one another.” John 15:17, Amplified Bible

If I Ruled For A Day…

It’s fiction, but

Novel idea no less

To cancel World’s

Disasters for all time…

Get to root

Of pervasive greed

Tendency of zeal

To birth violence…

Hunger, poverty

Children on the streets

Drug ‘highs’ that kill

Broken families

Divisiveness which

Foments crime

Prevents unity…

Powerless and

Worthless idols…

Once these are

Nipped in bud, I’ll

Mandate classes on

Kindness, gratitude

Respect, encouragement

How to appreciate

Simple everyday

Wonders around us

And in each other…

How to use our vast

Imagination for good…

Only a day

To rule the World

Not sure my

Personality suits

The position…

I’m mere praying poet

Some days fair writer…

But if it were just one day

I’d make best effort

To rule with heart

Speckled, imperfect

It’s a start 💙

By the End of It…

By the end of it

She had no preferences

No choices or tastes

Left to her by he who ruled

Nightmare she’d walked right into…

His chain of linked lies

Had once sounded credulous

When she believed in

Romantic songs, fairy myths

Before years replete with tears…

Now nothing was left

Tears, dried water spots on glass

Time and miles mingling

Blurred, yet sharp-shard memories

Fake-gem fragments…not diamonds

A Confidential File (3TC)

Prompt words:  Private, Personal, Confidential

Everything with you

Was private, personal, a

“Confidential” file…

Were you afraid, proud…simply

Too mean to let me in, Mom?

I was not an outsider…

You welded firm division

Between us together

3 Years I Can’t Get Back

Just because lust, love

Both begin with letter “L”

They’re not equal, same

Heart showed paltry reluctance

Flames rose in devil’s fireplace

Faulty myth, Romance

Like menu entrée’s spiced dish

Tricky enigma

Passion hinders intellect…

Married with no quaint advice

Nor sure approval

Small audience wore blank looks—

We catapulted

Into uncharted letdown

No scintillating evenings

Your rage, my mute fear

Intimacy absent love

Our sole connection—

You did everything you could

To scare me into leaving

Why were you surprised

When you finally succeeded…

I squandered 3 years

On dream without substance, let

You deceive, thieve who I was

Should have read Bible…

I didn’t know my value

Threw pearls before swine

“Do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” Mathew 7:6, Amplified Bible

Flickering Remains

Lovely bijoux heart

Pliant, polite, docile till

Domestic striking

Chokehold sucked soul, battered mind

Flick’ring, God’s Spirit remains

Ice-Crusted Snow (Twiglet 290)

Heatwave’s held me captive

In chronic fit of pique…

I’m quickly turning calendar

White flurries in December

Fantasizing, yearning for

Breath-chilled shivering

Crystal brilliance…winter’s

Bright ice-crusted snow

Fill bowls full with it, no

Flavored syrup tropical

Pure unadorned, tongue-lips-

Numbing, cold ice-crusted snow

Seal me well inside it like

Holiday gift-mas globe

Preserved as naïve gleeful youth

Sparkled dancer whirling
